Education
SOS India has built various educational facilities to cater to the needs of all the children who have come under our wings. There are currently 6,600 children attending SOS schools throughout India. The schools are not only open to children under the care of SOS Children’s Villages, but also to other local children who are in need of a healthy school environment.
Kindergartens
Normally children from SOS Children’s Villages attend local kindergartens. However, in countries and regions where pre-school facilities do not already exist or are inadequate, SOS Children’s Villages build their own.
These kindergartens offer children from both the SOS Children’s Village and the local neighborhood access to early learning and supervised play facilities that would not otherwise be available. We use individualized teaching methods that take into account the cultural norms of the country, and are designed to allow children to develop at their own pace and explore their natural creativity.
SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools
In many parts of the world, education is a privilege and not a basic right, and school facilities may be inadequate or even non-existent in some regions. As a result, SOS Children’s Villages often build schools which are open to both SOS children and young people from the neighboring districts.
The spectrum of SOS Hermann Gmeiner Schools ranges from primary and secondary schools, to vocational training schools and international colleges, of which there are two worldwide.
Vocational Training Centers
SOS India also runs vocational training centers in addition to the regular schools. The students acquire necessary knowledge and skills. The centers offer courses ranging from carpentry to tailoring to nursery teacher’s training.
Vocational Training Schools
SOS India also runs Vocational Training Centers designed to give young adults from our youth centers, SOS villages and the surrounding community the opportunity to acquire the skills they need to secure quality employment. Vocational courses range from carpentry to nursery teacher training. The coursework that students engage in is intended to empower youth to address the myriad social and economic demands the ‘real world’ places on them confidently and independently.
