Abandoned in India
We have all seen Dev Patel and Freida Pinto in Slumdog Millionaire, and we are awake to the plight of literally millions of poor children in India, especially in the cities. But I don’t want you to think of them right now. Think of yourself. Have you felt abandoned? Passed over for a job, or discarded by a friend? Lost a loved one? Felt absolutely alone in this country, unable to really fit in?
What a terrible feeling! Feeling abandoned is painful, and tugs on your stomach as much as your heart.
How wonderful in your moment of abandonment if someone had just reached out their hand and been able to make it all go away…imagine it.
Now think back again to a young boy or girl living in squalor in India, alone and abandoned, while the streets are aglow with families, celebrations and the flames of Diwali. Look into their eyes. You can be that hand that reaches out to help them and make it all go away.
